New York Attorney General Letitia James Must Resign — and Be Prosecuted for Abuse of Power

by

What is it with New York attorneys general? Is there something in the Albany water supply that makes them crazed crooks?

Pick a recent New York attorney general: Eliot Spitzer, Andrew Cuomo, and Eric Schneiderman. Democrats all, they ran into some self-created problem that forced their resignation from either the attorney general’s office or, in Spitzer’s and Cuomo’s case, the governorship of New York, where both had moved on to after serving as attorney general.

Spitzer was forced out of the governor’s office after it was discovered that he had been patronizing a prostitution ring. Cuomo was out of the governorship after several sexual misconduct charges surfaced. And Schneiderman resigned as attorney general following several allegations of his physically abusing women.

Now?

This time it’s New York Attorney General Letitia James, yet another Democrat attorney general.

While running for attorney general in 2018, James made prosecuting then-President Donald Trump her major campaign promise as she sought to replace the disgraced Schneiderman. Said James in a campaign video:

I will never be afraid to challenge this illegitimate president…. I believe that this president is incompetent. I believe that this president is ill-equipped to serve in the highest office of this land. And I believe that he is an embarrassment to all that we stand for.

And just how was she going to accomplish her “challenge”? Said she:

As the next attorney general of his home state … I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn.

Got all that? There was Letitia James, making her major campaign promise for New York’s top legal position the prosecution of a private citizen of New York state for no other reason than her personal and political hatred of him. (READ MORE: Letitia James’ Campaign Strategy: Suing Trump)

Now come the new headlines this week. Using her powers as attorney general, James has filed a $250-million lawsuit against the former president and three of his five children — Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric — and the Trump Organization itself.

Let’s be blunt again.

This attorney general of New York is a staggering crook. She is criminalizing politics — using the powers of the office of attorney general to pursue a personal political vendetta. And in doing so, she has instantly cast herself and her conduct into the same seriously crooked position that forced her predecessors’ resignations.

Make no mistake.

America in the Biden era is turning into a police state, with Democrats using the powers of their respective offices to prosecute political opponents.

The New York Post’s Miranda Devine has turned up the news in a story headlined this way:

FBI hero paying the price for exposing unjust ‘persecution’ of conservative Americans

Devine reports this:

Bombshell allegations by FBI Special Agent Steve Friend contained in a whistleblower complaint filed late Wednesday with the Department of Justice inspector general reveal a politicized Washington, DC, FBI field office cooking the books to exaggerate the threat of domestic terrorism, and using an “overzealous” January 6 investigation to harass conservative Americans and violate their constitutional rights.

Friend, 37, a respected 12-year veteran of the FBI and a SWAT team member, was suspended Monday, stripped of his gun and badge, and escorted out of the FBI field office in Daytona Beach, Fla., after complaining to his supervisors about the violations.

He was declared absent without leave last month for refusing to participate in SWAT raids that he believed violated FBI policy and were a use of excessive force against Jan. 6 subjects accused of misdemeanor offenses.

This comes on the heels of repeated stories of the seriously politicized FBI and Department of Justice’s running around the country and issuing subpoenas to one Trump supporter after another to confiscate their cellphones. Among those who have had their phones confiscated are a United States congressman — Pennsylvania’s Scott Perry — and Mike Lindell, Mr. MyPillow himself. That doesn’t even count the FBI raid on the home of a former president of the United States — Trump’s Florida club, Mar-a-Lago.

Now comes Letitia James. In her filing a lawsuit against a political foe she detests, James has made herself the New York face of this Stasi-style, decidedly criminal abuse of power.

For which she should resign — or be impeached.

And prosecuted.
